Did you know?
After a period in which Gaustablikk’s founder, Olav Svartdal, returned from his adventurous experiences as a ski instructor for Hollywood celebrities in the majestic Rocky Mountains, he was invited to take on an exciting role as a stuntman for Kirk Douglas in the film The Heroes of Telemark.
Svartdal said he would take on the role for one million kroner – and he got it. Little did he know that the amount was in dollars. How much of the story is myth and how much is fact remains unclear, but the tale lives on. What is certain, however, is that this unexpected sum became the key to realizing his dream. In 1970, Gaustablikk Mountain Resort was built, with the majestic mountain landscape as the setting for this remarkable story.
And that is how the name Kirk’s Bar & Lounge came to be.
