Since 1970, Gaustablikk Fjellresort has stood proudly on Gausta, defined by its iconic views of Gaustatoppen. Here, at 945 metres above sea level, the magic of the mountains is ever-present.

From remote wilderness to a mountain hotel retreat
Before the hotel was built, the area was a remote wilderness – until Olav Svartdal arrived with his vision of creating a hotel.
Raised in Flatdal in Telemark, Olav carried this dream from a young age. After emigrating to the United States in the 1950s and working as a ski instructor, he returned to Norway and became a stuntman in the film The Heroes of Telemark, starring Kirk Douglas. With this unexpected starting capital, he began to realise his vision, and Gaustablikk Mountain Hotel took shape.
